My super expensive birthday present (Part 1)

  • Jul. 15th, 2008 at 10:35 PM
I got a request from one of the kakilang members - meinu to revive our kakilang corner. Come to think about it, our last posting was like 1 year ago! OMG! and at that time we were pretty enthusatic about posting our whatever blog online. hahaha.

So since i'm the most "ENG" person on earth, i'm supposed to be the first to restart the engine on blogging. =/ =\ =/ =\

Anyway, I shall talk about my latest super expensive birthday present I had bought for myself, and that is a brand new Honda Jazz 2009! YEAH!

Passed my driving test a couple of months ago, and my dad sorta tempted me into buying a car. So, after weeks of scouting around for a car that suits my taste, needs, and at the same time is a fuel efficient vehicle, I have finally narrowed my choices to Honda Fit 2008 , Honda Jazz 2008 and Honda Jazz 2009 models.

Basically Honda Fit 2008 and Honda Jazz 2009 is almost 95% the same. Honda Fit is a parallel importer model whereas Honda Jazz is an authorised dealer. Asked around among my friends and got a mixed opinion of whether I shd go for PI or AD. Eventually, decided to just go for AD as the safest choice and also the more expensive choice.

Decided on a Red Honda Jazz 2009 model, weekend car, cost $45,000. As this is only a pre-launch, meaning the car is not in Singapore yet, so I can only get my car in Nov/Dec 2008. What a long wait.......zzz..zzzz...

For those interested, I'll be doing a simple post (part2) to compare about the differences between the 3 Honda models. kekekekeke

'Breaking up' with ur 'family'

  • Aug. 19th, 2007 at 10:21 AM
Ha!! Weekend blogger, Zandy is here!! =)

I think by now, frens r aware that I hv been dumped by my ex of 7 yrs bcos of his infidelity with a 'mina' (malay ger) :(

Briefly the background of our r/ship is that we started during our last yr in secondary sch.... of cos ups & downs during the years but we walk thru this road together. At a pt of time (during his NS), I somehow had this tot that he is 'the one' so I told him that "I wanna grow old with you"... He acknowledge it but did't talk abt any concrete plans. I was kind of frustrated and often ask him abt our future.

I know tat he is pressurized by it but he live with it. When he started working, he started to have this 'quarter-life crisis' not knowing what to do for his future. Tried to encourage him but at the same time, pressure him for our future again!! (Stupid!!)

Maybe its the built-up pressure that he started to resent against me. I was very upset so started 'talking' to him again. From the 'talk', I realized that he was very 'fan' bcos he somehow knows that I am not the one. I was very upset about it and try to work things out but then I realize that he knows this mina from work and they had an intimate r/ship. :((

Tat feels like the end of the world. I 'hibernated' for a few days at home crying n crying. I must admit that I have suicidal tendency and it really sucks. Definitely I got the support of my frens & family. They hv been calling/accompanying/smsing to keep me occupied. I was super touched with their gesture.

I started to stand up thinking that 'it is his lost not mine' and move on from there...then somehow it started to involve his family. His dad & bro calls and his mum cry. Its really heartbreaking and I start to feel weak again. I 'respect' them a lot and they treated me as part of their family so its kind of difficult to 'break-up' with ur 'family' right? Its really an emo struggle....

Lately, they call me again informing me that my ex will be back from overseas soon (he went for work) and they wan me to go to their house to 'talk things out'. I am really out of my wits. My ex and I knows that its a mutual thing that we have broken up but its kind of touchy when it involves family. My ex feels that his mum will be crying if we meet together (which I think so too) What do you think I can do w/o being rude or abrupt?
Had lunch with Marie and Zandy on Friday (17 Aug) at Pastamania of Bugis Junction. Initial choice is Sakae Sushi, but changed our minds after seeing Pastamania when on the way to Sakae. However, that was a wrong choice made.

Here's what happened:

We were served by a not so courteous staff when ordering our food. Nevermind that, doesn't really affect our mood and lunch.

Had our soup and garlic bread first. Marie and Zandy commented that the clam chowder soup has no taste of clam, more of just chowder with the taste of milk. My minestrone soup tasted alright.

Waited quite a while for our food, when its ready, the staff took our pasta for a spin around the restaurant as she had a hard time searching our number tag when its right infront of her.

So, 3 hungry gals dig in to our pastas!

hmm.....why does my Bacon Aglio tasted bitter? Nevermind, maybe its just me. I tried Marie's Cabonara, tasted bland, Zandy's Beef Bolognese, tasted bland as well. Guessed, its not just me!!

We tried to finish our pastas to fill our stomach, but we just couldn't do it.

Unfinished Pastas

Did this happened just that day? Maybe the chef was not having a good mood, thus the pastas tasted bad? Or has this always been the kind of pastas that this outlet served? On the whole, we are abit disappointed with this lunch.

While chit-chatting and finishing our ice lemon tea, me and Zandy's stomach started aching. We wondered if its the pastas? In the end, all 3 of us spent a little time in a small cubicle to do 'big big business' during office hours.

Luckily, we did not have food poisoning. With this experience, we are never going back to Pastamania at Bugis Junction again. We really hope that this is not their service standard always. Maybe, you people out there has experienced otherwise or same as us??

Enjoy your weekend!!

Singapore Fireworks Festival 2007

  • Aug. 19th, 2007 at 12:59 AM
The Singapore Fireworks Festival is here again!

This year it is happening at the Floating Platform at Marina Bay. And YES it is the one where this yr's NDP is held! :D

However, amazingly there are only 2 countries participating this yr, they are Spain (presented on Fri 17 Aug) and China (presented on Sat 18 Aug) -- the one I went.

The ground opened at 5pm and activities started at 6pm. The REAL THING only happened at 9.15am. As you can see from the pictures below, there were already SOOO MANY ppl sitting and standing around along esplanade, sheares bridge and merlion park.. at 7PM and these places are really WONDERFULLY packed!

And right in front of esplanade, the area where they used to have the tentage for the free outdoor shows sponsored by volkswagon, you can see it is pretty occupied as well.. I could see ppl having picnics there.. hee hee.. :p

Here we are now at the seats in front of the floating platform. And.... you can see that we are not toooo far from the Singapore Flyer! Wish for this and IR to be completed sooon! So that we all here in Singapore can truly enjoy the modern and advanced lifestyle we really deserve to have! Have also taken a very nice pic of the evening CBD view..

Now, finally we have our fireworks! Very very interesting and creative from the China team! They had all sorts of amazing and catchy combinations. They call these Pyro Musicals, where fireworks are displayed according to the music's rythms. hmm, actually in most ppl's opinions, Singapore fireworks are really not that fantastic, and you should see the other countries ones.. I really have to agree with that! Look at all these! I mean, they not only are colorful (Combinations ya, not just single colors), they are very creative! And also, the duration was about 15 mins.. Seriously, I will catch next yr's fireworks festival and many more years' ones to come.. :)

Hope you enjoyed the pics!

Luv, Fiona :)

Submissive or Domineering?

  • Aug. 16th, 2007 at 6:14 PM
Few days ago, on the way home, I saw a couple in the MRT. The guy was so gentle and caring to the gal, held her to prevent her from falling and looked lovingly at her. The gal, on the other hand, did not show any emotion. My initial thot is, between a couple, is there always one party that will always be submissive and the other one being domineering? Are most relationship maintained in this way?

Hmm.....luckily, my relationship with my hubby is not this way. There are times that one of us has to give in (depends on who is wrong), but its not to the extreme that one party is always giving in, while the other party is always receiving and demanding.

I feel that there should be times that the roles are switched, else, the party always giving will be tiring. As time goes by, the relationship will become a 'used to it' style and either parties will take each other for granted. In the end, the one giving, will continue to give more and the one receiving, will continue to demand for more.

This is the same as when a couple quarrels, the domineering party will expect the submissive partner to give in even though he or she is in the wrong. Is this the correct attitude?

As always said, we should stand in the shoe of our partner to know how they feel. Well, its easier said than done, sometimes I am also taking my hubby for granted. It just can't be balanced somehow. Looks like once in a while, we need to think about what we have done, how are we treating our partner? If its really that bad and taking them for granted, we should really change abit and this would give them a surprise. :)

So what do you think? Any of you in this kind of situation?

My Email to Lianhe Wanbao

  • Aug. 13th, 2007 at 10:36 PM

I sent an email to Lianhe Wanbao to complain. You know, now they have this $50 NTUC Fairprice Voucher giveaway if you have any news or interesting pictures, be it strange scenes or accidents.. So I am trying my luck on this compliant, hoping tat they will report it on their paper and I'll get the $50 voucher for free!~

Anyway, this is a case of rudeness and no-social-etiquette behaviour.. I wrote this email about me n my mum waiting for Bus 269 at AMKHub Bus Interchange last sat. There were already ppl in both 261 & 269 queues. Then came along this middle-aged lady who just wait at one side, near the queues (without joining any queue of cos!)

And so I took 3 pictures (shown below in sequence).

IMAGE001.jpg - The middle-aged woman I was talking about, standing in the background (circled red).
IMAGE002.jpg - Showing that there are already ppl in the queue for Bus 261.
IMAGE003.jpg - Finally, here we catch the woman POTONG JALAN (Cut Queue so obviously!) when the bus came.

Actually this is very common in Singapore, but I just can't help it. I really have to complain, so at the end of my email, I told Wanbao that we wish for a better society with more well-mannered citizens.. And also wish for them to put up my news on their paper :) Hee..

Here you go the chinese email I sent to Lianhe Wanbao.

"

Attached

--- 12 Aug 07

Home Office Scheme

  • Aug. 13th, 2007 at 10:22 PM
A complaint shoutout from Ǽthere:

" I will say its really very illogical to register a business in Singapore; especially for those opting for Home Office Scheme (HOS).

First you need to write in to Housing Development Board (HDB) for approval; but they require your business registration number.

And when you go to Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA)  to register your business, there is a section where for people using HOS, HDB MUST approve you before you proceed.

What is this SHIT??? "

How do you know if you’re in love?

  • Aug. 12th, 2007 at 11:36 PM

Okie I noe that close frens will be laughing at me cos they obviously noe why I am blogging on this topic (esp. FIONA!!)

But then again, its interesting isn't it!! Mwahaha... (I shld actually be mugging for my projects lor!!) Digressing...

Anyway, I saw this interesting stuff so tot might as well share right (me no selfish) *singlish-babe* -_-

1. Love is a glorious, wonderful, indescribable feeling that needs to be experienced in order to be understood. While there are a number of signs of falling in love, no one can tell you for certain that you are “in love”. It is something that only you yourself can tell. You will know it when it happens to you.

2. Your heart beats faster ,you think of them all the time ,can't wait to see them and when you do your legs turn to jelly. Protecting them and trusting them are all good signs. it is one one of those times when you know it is right.

3. Love is when you get around the person and you can't speak. You look for that person wherever you go. You think of that person from the moment you wake up to the moment you go back to sleep and dream about them.

4. When you just want to be with that person every second of your life and never get tired of it.

5. When he/she's the first person you think of when you wake up in the morning and the last person you think of when you go to bed at night, when you think about him/her all day and want to see him/her so badly,he/she maybe the person you love.

Interesting right!! (Pls say Yes!!) Okie la, I need to go back to mug on project otherwise tomorrow cannot make it for run with ck n mus :p

Go liao. Bye!!

Swiss Fondue

  • Aug. 12th, 2007 at 10:12 PM

All along, I thought only Chocolate Fondue exist, until I visited SwitzerlandInterlaken in 2005.

That was my 1st taste of fondue and it was a 3-course fondue for dinner.

The 1st course of fondue was Cheese Fondue. Wine and cheese were mixed together and you dip cubed hard bread into the cheese fondue. On 1st taste, the alcohol taste is overwhelming, that you wouldn’t taste the cheese. Very much different from the taste of nachos with cheese (those that you buy at cinemas). However, as you take more mouthfuls, the taste of cheese gradually become stronger, and the taste of alcohol somehow fade.

2nd course of fondue is called Fondue Bourguignonne (deep-fat fondue). As the name suggest, it's a pot of oil, and you dip cubed meat into the pot to fry it. Works like the Chinese steamboat, but a oilier version. There will be some sauces to go with the meat, but I never get to find out the name of the sauces as I was just too busy eating. *LOL*

3rd course, which is the best, Dessert Fondue – Chocolate Fondue. The pot of chocolate is accompanied by pieces of fruit (strawberries, bananas, kiwis, peaches, mangos). Chocolate Fondue is pretty commonly found in Singapore now.

Overall, my favs are chocolate and cheese fondue. However, for first-timers, I’ll recommend you to try out all 3 if you got the chance.

I didn't have a nice pic taken on the fondue in Switzerland that can make you drool.

Here's one Chocolate Fondue taken in Singapore. =)

The material is waterproof, like those prada kind. :p But I guess it really is the much more affordable brand compared with those luxury ones. This is so functional and chic! Agnes B is the way to go!~

Here is another color which you will love as well.. :) Well, the colors come along with the season. So they dun have every color every now and then.. So far I have seen black/grey, black/turquoise, grey/black, dark purple/pink, khaki/orange.. :)
